Local Elections 2021 – Greens standing across Plymouth

We’re standing in this years Council elections to challenge the constant bickering between
Labour and the Conservatives.

A vote for the Green Party is a vote for a grown-up, collaborative cross-bench culture where Councillors work hard for
residents.

The Green Party is standing in 18 wards at the local elections on May 6th, giving Plymouthians the opportunity to vote for change.

“The majority of seats at Council are currently held by Labour and the Conservatives, and residents are telling me they are tired of seeing the same old playground drama between them”, says Ian Poyser, who is challenging the Conservatives in the Plympton Chaddlewood ward.

“Almost all Labour and Conservative resources are put into just a handful of “battleground” seats, leaving residents in so-called ‘safe seats’ across the city with little voice in Council”. Lack of genuine opposition in these supposed ‘safe seats’ leads to a lack of accountability and underperforming councillors getting re-elected year in, year out, regardless of their record.

This is reflected in low turnout at election time, like in Plympton Chaddlewood, which had the lowest turnout in 2019 of just 29%.

A Green vote this May is a vote for:

● Hard-working Green Councillors, standing up for residents all year round, not just at election time.
● More accountability and resident involvement in the big decisions that affect all our lives. Labour and the Conservatives too often fail to provide effective scrutiny, leading to poor decision-making, and poor value for money for taxpayers.
