St Budeaux

Local election 2024 on 2nd May

George Wheeler

I’ve been honoured to represent St Budeaux on the City Council from 2002 to 2023. I have a background in engineering and computing and worked at the University of Plymouth until retiring. I left the Labour Party in 2021 and became a Green councillor in May 2022. Green councillors are not told how to vote by their party, so I am free to speak up for St Budeaux residents.

Many residents I have spoken to say that I’m a hard-working councillor who can be seen all year round, holding regular surgeries and keeping residents informed with my regular newsletter. I’ve taken up many planning issues, for example, campaigning against the incinerator, getting a noise condition for the helicopter landing stage at Kinterbury Point and opposing the Pony Field development in Kings Tamerton.

If elected, my priorities for St Budeaux would be to protect our green spaces, trees. and local wildlife, to ensure residents have a greater say on housing and development in our area and to save and improve youth services and play parks. I will be fighting for better bus services and shelters at well-used stops and make sure new public toilets on the Square are built without further delay.
