Plymstock Radford

Local Elections 2023 - 4th May

James Dyson

James Dyson, Green Party candidate Plymstock Radford

James says: "I'm standing as a candidate for the Green Party in Plymstock Radford because Plymouth City Council, as it is currently run by Labour and the Conservatives, has failed in its democratic duty. This has been shown plainly by the scandalous recent felling of over 100 mature trees in the city centre, carried out under cover of darkness and against overwhelming public opposition.

The current Tory-led council, aided and abetted by a Labour Party that could have – and chose not to – stopped the project at any time, has shown its utter contempt for Plymouth’s residents. I was involved with the STRAW (Save The Trees of Armada Way) campaign from its earliest days, and the Green Party were staunch allies from the outset. At the same time, I have also witnessed Plymouth's currently serving Green Councillors’ dedication to genuinely representing the needs of their wards.

By bringing more Green voices to the council, I hope to ensure that the wishes of local residents are properly heard and respected. Only by removing the current duopoly at a local and national level can another outrage like the Armada Way felling be prevented from happening again, our politics restored, and the climate catastrophe addressed."
